Western Australian
Maritime Museum: Fremantle. Provides exhibitions on

South Australian Maritime Museum. Port Adelaide. Custodian
to one of the oldest nautical collections in
Australia, a museum within a museum. Its floating
collection comprises Yelta, the State's
last working steam tug, the launch Archie Badenoch
built for military use in the 1940s, and the MV Nelcebee,
assembled in Port Adelaide in 1883, the third oldest
vessel in the Lloyd's Register.

Maritime Museum: Whyalla. Specialises in naval
history, BHP shipbuilding industry, maritime heritage
and natural history of the upper Spencer Gulf
The Maritime
Museum of Tasmania. Carnegie Building, Hobart.
Dedicated to the preservation and presentation of
Tasmania's rich maritime heritage for all time.
Melbourne Maritime Museum:
Melbourne. Afloat in
Melbourne's original wooden walled dry dock, Polly
Woodside is the main exhibit of the maritime museum.
Historically listed 1930s cargo sheds house a rich
collection of displays, artefacts, models and
photographs.
Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum. Warrnambool. Recreated
maritime village and interpretive centre - hear, see
and experience the hardships of those who sailed the
high seas.
Townsville
Maritime Museum: Townsville. The original museum
was begun by the Seafarers Association to ensure the
safe keeping of local maritime cultural history.
Ballina Naval & Maritime Museum: Ballina.
Home of the Las Balsas raft (1973). "Largest collection
of naval and merchant ship models in Australia."
Displays of Port of Ballina and local history, a tribute
to women in the Navy, interactive displays, naval and
merchant memorbilla.
P & O Heritage
Collection. Website focusing on the history of the P
& O shipping line, highlighting its collections
and providing users with fact sheets for over 2,000
ships owned or operated by P & O, family history
research guides and potted histories for a number of

Boat magazines, it's probably on the shelf. They also

Classic Boat
Magazine. A magazine for classic sail, rowing and
power boats of any construction.
Duckworks Magazine. An ezine for amateur boat
builders. Links to lots of interesting projects
(although some fall into the "but it has lots of
headroom" category).

source for new, second-hand and out-of-print books, with
very good turn-around time.
Water Craft
a
bi-monthly magazine produced by Pete Greenfield,
previously creator of Classic Boat and
The Boatman. A good mix of deign, technical and
dreaming articles, similar to WoodenBoat
Wooden Boat
Magazine. Lots of US and international links as
well. The standard by which all other classic/wooden
boat publications are judged. A great website with an
online/downloadable index of issues, discussion groups,
bookshop, boatshop etc. The place to cruise, rather
than surf, the web, checking out all the little inlets
and backwaters.

Great Southern Regional College - Albany - Western
Australia. Certificate IV in Wooden Boatbuilding. A
1-year fully accredited and Austudy approved course in
traditional wooden boat building.
Shipwright's Point School of Wooden Boat Building in
Franklin, Tasmania, 45 kilometres south-west of Hobart
on the banks of the Huon River. The School aims to
preserve the traditional boatbuilding knowledge and
skills of the Huon region, develop them in the context
of contemporary opportunities and pass them on to a new
generation of students.
